Whatever, Spiderman. You’re not the only one who can hang from a string off the top of a skyscraper. The EdgeWalk at Toronto’s CN Tower can safely satiate the Peter Parker in you, your kids and even your grandma.
I was one of the few people lucky enough to try out the experience before it opened to the general public. So, how was it you ask?
Short answer – amazing!
It’s definitely an experience I’d recommend to locals and to anyone visiting Toronto. The activity is easy enough that nearly anyone, including children (as long as they meet the height restriction) and the elderly can participate in. You feel safe yet unrestricted, allowing you the ability to move around freely and enjoy walking on the edge!
Perched on the edge of a platform 356 metres high staring down at the city below, there was only one thing that was on my mind – this is freaking awesome!!
We can thank the talented design and engineering team who spent nearly four years planning and executing this new feature at the CN tower. And as far as I’m concerned, they did a good job because there wasn’t a moment when I didn’t feel secure up there.
Although the focus of the activity is enjoying the experience itself, the staff at the tower are serious about making sure everyone is safe while having fun.
Once you’re suited up, harnessed in and everything has been checked over four times (yep, four times exactly), you proceed to the actual walk where you spend between 20-30 minutes walking around the outer rim of the main pod of the CN tower. During this time, your guide encourages you to push your limits. You’ll stand with your toes dangling off the edge of the rim, lean over backwards so just your toes remain on the platform, and even lean forward until you’re staring at the ground right below your feet.
It’s all a little frightening at first. But with each try you get more and more comfortable with the height, the sturdiness of the platform and the strength of the harnessing equipment.
The view is great even on a foggy day. As you walk around the tower, your guide will point out the main sites around downtown Toronto. If you’re visiting the city for the first time, this activity is a great way to begin your tour.
Perhaps the best part of the experience is not having to worry about taking your own photos and video. Your guide will do all this for you which means you can spend the entire time taking in the view and inscribing it permanently into your memory.
If you haven’t booked your EdgeWalk experience yet…get on it! $175 may seem like a hefty price, but I honestly think it’s worth the experience. The ticket includes a full visit to the all the attractions inside the tower. Also, you’ll receive a DVD containing video clips of your walk, printed photos of you and the group as well as a certificate congratulating you on braving through the EdgeWalk!

Been there, done that? Do it again in Auckland, New Zealand where it all started in the first place. At Auckland’s Sky Tower, not only can you teeter off the edge of a 192 metre platform, you can Base Jump right off it!
